Get rid of Desktop.ini files
Desktop.ini is a Windows XP system file that is created by the operating system itself for storing information about customized folders(if you have customized the display of a folder in any way, such as changing its icon or manner of display)and it also consists of the information about the folder is shared or not .By deleting these files you will not get into any troubles.
You can get rid of this desktop.ini files in two ways one is by using registry editor(regedit) and the other is using folder options first i will discuss about how to remove them using registry editor
- Click on Start-> Run type Regedit in it and press Enter
- Navigate to this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
- In the right pane delete Kernel32 value
- Now navigate to this key HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0OutlookOptionsMail
- In the right pane, delete the values
Compose Use Stationery
Stationery Name
Wide Stationery Name - Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0OutlookOptionsMail
- In the right pane, delete the value
EditorPreference - Navigate and delete these subkeys also:HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTdllFileShell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTdllFileShellEx
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTdllFileScriptEngine
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTdllFileScriptHostEncode - Now exit from the register and delete the desktop.ini files in your memory.
- Restart your computer and you are done.
Second method to get rid of these Desktop.ini files is using folder options which is easier than above mentioned method
- Go to Folder Option
- Click on the View tab.
- Check “Do not show hidden files and folders”.
- Check to “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)”.
- Click OK.
Now check your folders and you will not find any Desktop.ini files.

Deleting .ini files is one way of getting rid of worms or other malicious files on your pc. worms disguised as .ini files by deleting them is actually deleting worms.
