Nvidia Gtx 460 Review

Here we have a brief Review of the Nvidia Gtx 460  !

Nvidia added another Gpu to the Fermi line up – the Gtx 460.After the Gtx 465 being unable to impress most people out there, nvidia decided to tweak it a bit,cut out the unnecessary and make it lighter on power consumption and on your wallet.

gtx 460 review

Lets keep it short and Sweet ,The Gtx 460 looks like a  scaled down version of the Gtx 465 which had 352 Stream processors compared to 336 of the Gtx 460 and a transistor count of 3 Billion VS 1.95 Billion in Gtx 465 and 460 respectively.

Strangely Nvidia dint wanted the 460 to be much behind of the 465 and hence theve kept some specifications of the 460 above the 465 making it almost an equal performer on many occassions .

The Texture Address/Filtering of Gtx 460 is  56/56 compared to 46/46 of the Gtx 465 and the effective memory clock of Gtx 460 ticks 3.6Ghz compared to 3.25 Ghz of the Gtx 465.

The Gtx 460 comes in two variants ,one is 192 bit with 768 MB  buffer while the other is 256 bit and has a buffer size of  1 GB ,both being DDR5(obviously).

gtx 460 review

Sexiest thing about the Nvidia Gtx 460 is its price ,the 768mb version is priced at  $199 usd and 1 gb version is tagged at an impressive  $229 only and consumes 160 watt on max load making it more cost effective than any other card in that segment.

Nvidia has finally taken  a lead over here as this GF104 based  card out performs the 5830 and surprisingly kisses the performance of  5850 in many occasions.Check out Anand Tech & Guru 3d Benchmarks for a detailed  analysis.

It would have been great if Nvidia had launched this a little earlier, but as we say better late than never. This will certainly affect the prices of all the current Gpus  in the market which were stagnant for quite some time ,and thats a great news for all the consumers. So this is it fellows, the brief Gtx 460 review.

Very informative review on the Nividia GTX460. Much improved from their last one…the GTX465 which wasn’t that great. Looks like they went back to the drawing board and made a better mouse trap.

Thank you so much for this informative post.

  5. It surely threatens ATI users. Although a little late to Direct x11 but it is more powerfull than 5 series of ATI. Thats the very reason why ATI is getting ready for their 6 series GPU’s. I’m a NVIDIA user by the way. Nothing beats NVIDIA when it comes to GPU’s.

  6. Glad I waited to get a new video card. Hopefully it’s better then the predecessor.

Nice to see its not such a power hog. Some of these cards you practically need a gas generator just to run them. :P

  8. Looking like a good step up from nvidia’s previous offerings. Good review!

That’s absolutely great review on Nvidia Gtx 460… thank you so much for sharing that info… I think it’s so much better…

This 460 is terrible. I have been using it for about 4 months now and the FPS is so slow I can hardly play any good games. Very frustrating. and before you think it’s any part of my setup you, think again. 8G Ram, 1000w PS and MB that is way more than I need. Along with of course a great chipset. It seems this is an on going problem that Nvidia refuses to address or admit. Hoping to get a recall or something. Have always been a Nvidia buyer but now I’m having doubts as my son laughs at my comp performance with his ATI….
