Amd Fusion Power,speed Specifications

As many might know Fusion is Amd’s most anticipated upcoming project .For those unware of Amd Fusion it is the integration of a graphic processor into the central processing unit ,i.e the cpu & gpu co-exist on the same silicon die.Amd calls it APU(Accelerated processing unit)

Yesterday Amd revealed Some power and speed specifications of the forth coming fusion chip at International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco.

Llano(code name of the chip) can be expected in the first quarter of 2011 ,according to Sam Naffzige (an Amd offcial).

Architecture & Speed Details

The Cpu chip is a modified version of the current Phenom-II core (32nm) and would be available in quad and duo versions running beyond 3Ghz mark.

Each core having a 1 mb l2 cache will draw as low as 2.5 watts (max 25 watt){without the graphic processor as the whole Llano TDP wasn’t disclosed}.It does sounds prominent in power efficiency,and again the Llano features a new innovative power saving feature named Core Gating that disconnect’s Power to unused cores.

The Gpu specifications aren’t disclosed but they will be DX 11 ready and running blu-ray movies and some entry level Gaming will be a piece of cake even for the entry level APU’s.The Gpu-Cpu sync is boasted to dilever higher efficiency in 3d applications than when put on paper.

Though Intel’s Atom has already made their mark with the GPU in CPU integration last December Amd Fusion is worth waiting as it is not just targeted to notebooks or being just energy efficient & for cutting out space & price ,Fusion is serious about Performance.
