Both Amd and Intel are working on 6 core cpus With Intel being the first to launch it .
The six core Intel cpu is referred as Gulftown and the first chip would be Core i7-980X costing around $1000
On the other hand AMD will be late in launching the Six cored processors named
Phenom II X6 1075T, 1055T and 1035T.
They will arrive a month later as the Intel will be launching it in march.
